Xuemei Cao was born in Henan province, China, which is located in the central part of the country near the Yellow River. Henan is one of the few provinces with many historical relics and three of the seven Ancient Capitals of China are in Henan. It is the hometown of the famous Shaolin Temple.

Growing up in the Yellow River Valley, Xuemei first completed her college education with a degree in Chemistry in 1982 from ZhengZhou University.  She then went on to study Organic Chemistry at Nankai University in Tianjin and received her Master’s Degree in 1985.  Tianjin is a metropolis in northern coastal China and is the fourth largest city in China. The Acupuncture Documentary  “9000 Needles” was filmed in this city.

After a few years of teaching at Nankai University, Xuemei went to the University of Heidelberg in Germany to study Biology and received her Doctorate in Natural Sciences in 1991.

In 1992, Xuemei moved to the US and started her Postdoctoral research in Molecular Virology at the  State University of New York- Stony Brook. After that, she worked as a Scientific Investigator at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in New London, CT.  In the year 2010, Xuemei decided to follow her long-time desire of becoming a Chinese Medicine practitioner in order to help other people. She went back to China and learned Chinese Medicine from Dr. Xiang Qianjin who is a “Master of Chinese medicine” as awarded by the Chinese government in the year 2011. She studied with Dr. Xiang Qianjin in a remote rural mountain village called BaiYang, in the district of WanZhou outside of Chong Qing, Sichuan province. Then she went back to school in the US to receive her Masters in both Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture.   Xuemei is nationally board certified in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine from the NCCAOM (Diplomate of Oriental Medicine), and holds licenses from the States of Massachusetts (Acupuncture and Herb Therapy) and Connecticut (Acupuncture).
